Inclusion at SSOCC
We believe that all children do well when they can—and that every child needs extra support at times.
Inclusion is central to our work. We are committed to creating environments where all children feel valued, respected, and supported to participate, learn, and grow. Some children may require additional support more often, particularly as their needs become clearer in a group child care setting.
How We Support Children and Families
SSOCC has a permanent Inclusion Coordinator, funded through the BC Gaming Grant. This role is held by an occupational therapist who works closely with families and educators to support children with additional needs by:
Screening development using the ASQ and ASQ-SE
Referring families to appropriate professionals for further assessment
Supporting access to services such as Supported Child Care or PACE
Developing individualized care plans
Supporting educators in adapting classroom environments and programs
Advocacy and Funding
Inclusive child care funding in B.C. can be complex and difficult to access. SSOCC advocates alongside families to help children access the support they need. While external funding programs have their own criteria and waitlists, we work diligently to support families through the process.
For children with approved Autism Funding Unit (AFU) funding who are not yet receiving Supported Child Care, our programs may bill AFU directly to fund in-class support.
